How to Care for Your Windshield in the Winter

The winter weather brings a host of challenging issues for car owners. One of these is windshield care. Thankfully, you can keep your car's windshield in tip-top shape even with the influx of ice and snow. At Piazza Subaru of Limerick, we provide a host of Subarus for sale, both new and used. If you are looking for a vehicle, we can help you find the perfect fit. Furthermore, we can also help you keep your windshield in great shape with a few simple pointers!

One of the best ways to prevent winter windshield damage is by avoiding any abrupt temperature changes. Make sure that you never use hot or boiling water in an attempt to defrost your windshield. Hot water can crack your windshield. If you do wake up to a frosty windshield, give yourself a few extra minutes and turn on the defroster. This will give your car ample time to warm up and melt any ice that has accumulated.

Another way to prevent windshield damage is by using an ice scraper to remove the ice on your windshield. Resist the urge to use a putty knife, shovel, or other object to scrape off the ice because these objects can chip, crack, or scratch your car's windshield, leaving you with an avoidable, but expensive repair. Don't use rock salt, either. If possible, avoid using cheap plastic ice scrapers. At Piazza Subaru of Limerick, we recommend trying out some of the spray deicers that are on the market, as well.

Finally, ensure that your windshield is clean and check that your windshield wiper fluid is full.  A clean windshield can make driving much easier, especially during unexpected winter storms.  You can purchase a winter windshield washer fluid that has an ice mix added to the solution. If you do notice a rock chip in your windshield, have it repaired as soon as possible to decrease the likelihood of having to replace the entire windshield.

At Piazza Subaru of Limerick, we provide customers with a huge selection of used Subarus in PA. We also work with customers who want to find used cars in Limerick. Whether you need assistance selecting a new vehicle or just need a few winter windshield pointers, we can be your point of contact!
